3 Self-Checks Before A Rego Inspection

Posted on: 30 September 2019

When you need to get your car inspected before your rego renewal to check for its roadworthiness, you can do a few things to make sure it passes without any issues. This is a hassle-free way to ensure you don't have to go back for another inspection after an issue has been identified. Here are some self-checks to do on your own before a rego inspection.

Make Sure All Indicator And Brake Lights Are On

You will want to make sure all lights work on the car, which means you'll need to turn on the engine and check whether the turning indicator lights flash correctly. You'll also want to make sure the brake lights turn on when you push the brake down. To check this, you will need someone to check while you press the brake. Make sure all your lights, including reverse lights, headlights, fog lights and parking lights are all in proper working condition because this is usually inspected for rego renewal. If there is a problem with any of the lights, the simple fix may be to get a bulb from an auto store near you and attach it to the light socket. If the problem continues, it may be a wiring issue that requires professional repair.

Check The Windscreen And Wipers

Your windscreen is one of the most important elements of your car, so you'll want to make sure it is free from any damages or scratches because this could affect visibility while driving. Similarly, if the wiper blades don't clear your windscreen properly, this could be a visibility issue too. If your wiper blades are not too old, they may not be effective because dirt and dust have collected on them. Wash them and wipe them down to see if this solves the problem. Test your wipers again to make sure everything is all good.

Check Car Liquid Levels

It's a good idea to check that brake fluid, windscreen fluid, and coolant are at appropriate levels in the car; otherwise, you will need to get this sorted before getting the car re-inspected before rego renewal. You'll also want to carefully inspect the area to ensure there are no fluid leaks that could lead to a safety hazard later. If fluid levels are low, simply top them up before you go for your rego renewal.

Getting your car inspected for roadworthiness is not only important for your rego renewal, but it is also the responsible thing to do to stay as safe as possible.
